We are proud to have officially launched Lumina this year, a new Giant Steps initiative that supports autistic youth aged 16-21 and adult learners 21+ as they prepare for life beyond school.<\/p>\n
Made possible through the generous support of The Molson Foundation and an anonymous donor, Lumino reimagined the learning experience for our students. The program helps participants identify and build on their strengths and interests while developing the skills they need to thrive at home, in their communities and in the workplace.<\/p>\n

Lumina was designed as a complete and appropriate program focused on independence, daily living skills, community participation, and vocational readiness. Equally important, it fosters self-determination, self-awareness, and confidence\u2014foundational skills for a successful transition into adulthood.<\/p>\n
To support this work, we added a Specialist in Evaluation and TEVA Planning, who led in-depth assessments and developed individualized transition plans tailored to each learner\u2019s journey. A dedicated Life Skills space, along with specialized environments such as a teaching kitchen and a Creative space, provides hands-on, real-world learning opportunities.<\/p>\n

Students engage in internal initiatives, including working in our kitchen and caf\u00e9 to practice customer service and teamwork, as well as participate in hands-on workshops in coding, pottery, and embroidery. Mentorship opportunities connect students with professionals and community role models, helping them explore interests, build confidence, and envision meaningful pathways into the workforce.<\/p>\n
Lumina marks an important step forward for our students and their families. Throughout the year, we’ve seen participants grow in independence, confidence, and purpose.<\/p>\n
